Context

In a recent video circulating on Facebook, conservative commentator Charlie Kirk outlines how Klaus Schwab's book "COVID-19: The Great Reset" outlines a plan to "shatter" and "reshape" society.

Reading from the book, Kirk states its purpose in the following terms: "COVID-19 is a once in a millennia opportunity to reimagine our planet. Break the financial system, destroy the borders. This gives them an opportunity to do something that quite honestly has not been even attempted or tried in some time that is best articulated in Genesis 11, which is the Tower of Babel. It is trying to rebuild what Nimrod tried to do in Genesis 11, which is one language, one government, not to glorify God but to build something that would eventually challenge God all the way up to the heavens."

Klaus Schwab and the World Economic Forum (WEF) have been at the center of conspiracy theories for some time. These theories claim that Schwab, the WEF, and global elites exert their influence to bring about a one-world government.

In Fact

"COVID-19: The Great Reset" was co-authored by WEF Executive Chairman Klaus Schwab and Economist Thierry Malleret and released in 2020. It outlines the authors' view that recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic ought to entail wealth redistribution and broader changes designed to address inequities and flaws inherent to the global economy as currently structured. Overall, Schwab and Malleret frame the pandemic as an opportunity to examine and reevaluate societies with a view toward sustainable improvement.

The vision described in "COVID-19: The Great Reset" has received criticism on numerous grounds, including its promotion of corporate power in the "stakeholder capitalism" model advocated for by its authors. Overall, the contents of the book are informed by the opinions of its authors, meaning the validity of the arguments it promotes is inherently debatable.

While readers may form their own opinions about "COVID-19: The Great Reset", the proposition that the book outlines a secret plan to reshape societies is false. No evidence has ever surfaced that supports the proposition that the WHO or Klaus Schwab are engaged in a covert effort to upend the global status quo, and the book at issue merely reflects the opinion of its authors.

Verdict

There is no evidence that global elites are conspiring to reshape society in line with Great Reset-focused conspiracy theories. The book "COVID-19: The Great Reset" merely reflects the position of its authors and does not serve as a public blueprint for such a plot. This claim has therefore been marked false.
