Context: After announcing bumper returns during the first year of the rollout of COVID-19 vaccines, users on social media have targeted Pfizer and other pharmaceutical companies. Many are falsely alleging that a coalition of elites, globalists, and bureaucrats are reaping huge profits at the cost of public health and safety. In a short video clip posted on Twitter, some users are alleging that Pfizer CEO Albert Bourla said that Pfizer's goal is to reduce the world's population by half by 2023. In fact: We found that Bourla's words have been taken out of original context and distorted to create confusion. The original YouTube video was uploaded on May 25, 2022, by the World Economic Forum. During a conversation at this year's Davos summit, the Pfizer CEO said that the major announcement was part of the company's leadership dream to reduce the number of people who cannot afford medicines by 50 percent by next year. On verification, it is evident that the viral video has been trimmed to 38 secs at around the 2:50 timeframe, and the words "that cannot afford our medicines" have been cut out. In the original video, Bourla can be heard saying, "…by 2023; we will reduce the number of people in the world that cannot afford our medicines by 50 percent; I think, today this dream is becoming reality." Bourla did not speak about population control during the interview. The CEO was referring to an initiative recently launched by Pfizer called "An Accord for a Healthier World" to help 45 low-income countries provide patent-protected medicines and vaccines on a non-profit basis. The verdict: Many claims falsely linking several high-profile people have been spread since the coronavirus pandemic began. The viral video has been edited to misrepresent what the Pfizer CEO said. Hence we have marked this claim as false.
