The press release by the U.S. Defense Secretary Mark T Esper affirmed that the U.S. troops had not pulled its forces out of Iraq.As per the video of a press briefing live-streamed by The Washington Post on 7 January 2020, U.S. Defense Secretary Mark Esper said that the United States was not pulling its forces out of Iraq. He added that their policy had not changed and that they would not leave Iraq.
The press release made by the U.S. Department of Defense on 6 January 2020 states that Army General Mark A Milley referred to the unsigned letter, from commanding general of Task Force Marine Corps Brig. Gen. William H Seely who had addressed it to Iraq's Defense Ministry, and said that the letter was a draft which was sent out unintentionally. He also added that an unsigned letter does not constitute a policy change.
The transcript of the 7 January press briefing published by the U.S. Department of Defense shows the U.S. Defense Secretary while answering a question, had said that the U.S. forces would not leave Iraq and that the policies had not changed.
