A quick internet search shows that the law concerning street defecating was satire rather than fact. Consequently, the claim spreading on social media platforms that California has enacted an "alternative side of the street pooping" is false. Madhouse Magazine about page claims that it publishes "hysterical satire, phony interviews, and imaginary concert reviews." The published article in Madhouse Magazine was a satirical piece highlighting San Francisco's ongoing problem with open defecation. A sarcastic source of information about California's problem spreads the presumption that the state has passed legislation allowing people to excrete on the streets of the north and south side of the city on alternate days. The report claims this idea was inspired by New York City's alternate side of the street parking. But, a law like this has not been passed in the state. Sfgate's article states that San Francisco's streets encountered fewer irregular reports of excrement in 2021 than in 2020 and 2019. There were 14,337 reports of "waste on streets" between January 1 and July 12, 2019. Between January 1 and July 12, 2021, there were 13,856 human or animal manure reports in the city, down from 16,547 during the same period in 2020. In 2018, the San Francisco Chronicle reported that a team of five public works employees would begin patrolling the paths around Polk Street and other hot spots in a vehicle fitted with a steam cleaner. The Poop Patrol's mission was to locate and eliminate excrement mounds before anyone complained. For many years San Francisco has been dealing with street defecation. However, there is no alternative street defecation law has been proposed by the California state.
