Context

A video shared on Facebook claims that a war is being waged between U.S. military generals and a centuries-old deep state. The video also displays the social media platform Truth Social and scrolls through posts that claim Ebola is a man-made bioweapon and part of a second "Plandemic." The Facebook post also promotes following a QAnon conspiracy theorist account on Truth Social. 

In Fact

There is no evidence that Ebola is a man-made bioweapon or that a deep state controls the world. The World Health Organization states that Ebola is a rare, serious illness often fatal when untreated. Human-to-human transmission occurs via direct contact with the blood or bodily fluids of those sick with or who have died from Ebola. Ebola is introduced into the human population through close contact with the bodily fluids of infected animals like fruit bats, gorillas, and forest antelope. As mentioned by the CDC, scientists do not know where the virus comes from. Based on similar viruses, they believe bats and nonhuman primates are the most likely source. All evidence shows that it is a natural virus primarily prevalent in Africa.

The Ebola virus has been the target of historical bioweapon claims. For example, As mentioned in a Politico fact check, claims were made that the 2014 Ebola outbreak in Sierra Leone came from a bioweapons lab funded by Bill Gates and George Soros. However, no evidence supports these claims; they were marked as false. Fears about terrorist organizations getting a hold of and weaponizing Ebola were also prevalent from 2013 to 2016 during the West African Ebola virus epidemic. A 2015 Guardian article noted that U.K. military research at Porton Down assessed Ebola as a bioterrorism concern. As a 2014 Forbes article mentioned, the Japanese cult Aum Shinrikyo attempted to obtain the Ebola virus as part of its biological warfare plan but failed. However, Dr. Filippa Lentzos, an expert on bioterrorism, told the Guardian that Ebola would be a relatively ineffective bioweapon due to its slow spread and limited transmission. Furthermore, there's no evidence that Ebola has been effectively used or harnessed as a bioweapon.

The claim that Ebola is a "second plandemic" is in reference to the conspiracy that the COVID-19 virus and pandemic were engineered and planned out by global elites or a deep state. However, there is no evidence that the COVID-19 pandemic was planned, and these claims have been debunked. Logically has fact-checked claims of a "plandemic" and other COVID-19 conspiracy theories and found them false.

There is no evidence to support the video's further claims that a centuries-old deep state is waging an underground war using bioweapons. These claims are related to the known QAnon conspiracy, which the post overtly promotes. The conspiracy is unfounded and holds the belief that an evil satanic Deep State controls the world. According to a 2021 BBC article, the QAnon conspiracy theory began in 2017 following a series of anonymous posts on the website 4Chan by a user called "Q," who claimed to have high-level U.S. security clearance. 

The Verdict

There is no evidence that Ebola is a man-made bioweapon, and claims of a deep state are related to the QAnon conspiracy theory. Therefore, we have marked these claims as false.
