There is no proven evidence to confirm that sipping water regularly prevents COVID-19 infection and the virus is killed by the stomach acid.
There is no proven evidence to confirm that sipping water regularly prevents COVID-19 infection and the virus is killed by the stomach acid.According to a twitter post by the World Health Organisation, drinking water is good for overall health and keeping the body hydrated, but does not prevent coronavirus infection.
BBC, in its report, has stated that drinking water will not help wash the virus down the oesophagus and is killed by our stomach acid, as it is not the main route of transmission. Whereas the virus can get into the body by touching the nose, eyes or by breathing the tiny droplets which contain thousands of viral particles after the infected person coughs or sneezes.
However, drinking water when healthy or sick will only keep mucus membranes moist and the body hydrated but it will not prevent anyone from catching the new coronavirus.
The COVID-19 pandemic has given rise to a lot of potentially dangerous misinformation. For reliable advice on COVID-19 including symptoms, prevention and available treatment, please refer to the World Health Organisation or your national healthcare authority.
