The edited image of Modi on the cover of Time Magazine with the caption "super-spreader" is fake. An image on social media shows Indian Prime Minister Modi's on the cover page of Time magazine calling him a "Super-spreader." The post criticizes Modi for holding election rallies in West Bengal as COVID-19 cases surged across India. On observing, we found the date on the magazine cover as July 17, 2006, but the original cover on that date was on 'The End of Cowboy Diplomacy.' An illustration of Modi was again featured on the cover of Time Magazine in May 2019, with the text "The Great Divider." We could not find any archival reference to a cover of Modi with the word "superspreader." The false image appears to have been created using a Time magazine front cover generator.
