Indian Government has not made any announcements on the second lockdown. After observing a sharp decline in the number of COVID-19 cases after mid-Sept, 2020, India witnessed a spike in the number of cases from Feb 2021. However, the national average has declined drastically since Sept 2020, where there was a 7-day average of over 90,000 cases. The weekly average in Feb dropped to 10,000-15,000, according to New York Times data. As of Mar 1, India has observed 11,112,241 total Coronavirus cases, with only168,358 active cases, a small number considering its population of over 136 crores. National capital Delhi, which once had the maximum number of patients in the country, reported zero virus deaths for the first time in nearly nine months on Feb 9, according to COVID19 INDIA. According to Press Information Bureau, India’s vaccination coverage so far is only 1.26 crores. According to the Union Health Ministry, states including Maharashtra, Kerala, Punjab, Madhya Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, and Chhattisgarh have witnessed an upsurge in daily new cases in the recent past. This has prompted the central government to rush multi-disciplinary high-level teams to these states/UTs. Fresh local lockdowns have also been imposed in these states. Also, the Cabinet Secretary has scheduled a review with these seven states. On Mar 24, 2020, India announced its first nationwide lockdown to break the chain of Coronavirus infection. Though some states witnessing a rise in the number of cases have imposed restrictions; there are no reports of new nationwide lockdown in the country. Hence, the claim is baseless. The COVID-19 pandemic has given rise to a lot of potentially dangerous misinformation.
