Statement by the CDC and FSSAI confirms that there is no evidence to prove that food is a source of transmission of COVID-19 virus.A message on Whatsapp, claiming that vegetables are the source of spreading COVID-19 in major cities of India like Ahmedabad, Kanpur, and Lucknow, has gone viral. According to the Centre for Disease Surveillance (CDC) and World Health Organisation (WHO), COVID-19 is generally thought to be spread from person-to-person through respiratory droplets. The Food Safety Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) in a press release stated that currently there is no evidence that food is a likely source or route of transmission of COVID-19 virus. It stresses on the importance of taking all precautions to prevent any possibility of person to person spread of COVID-19 infection during food business operations.
