The unemployment rate in India has recovered to its pre-lockdown levels in the month of July 2020.The national wide lockdown imposed to contain the COVID-19 pandemic had impacted the lives of thousands of workers in India. The CMIE data showed that the unemployment rate had earlier spiked from 8.75 per cent in March 2020 to above 20 per cent in the three months starting from April. However, with the easing of lockdown, there is a drastic improvement in the number of people employed. The recovery is underway from the precipitous fall of April as the average unemployment rate is now 7.6 per cent which is slightly better than the last year.
