The former President has not expressed a strong opinion either way, though others have suggested he does not like dogs. Former President Donald Trump is known for not being very fond of dogs. According to the Washington Post, he was the first White House occupant in a century without a pet dog. During his El Paso rally in February 2019, Trump told the reporters that he doesn't have a dog because the idea of having one seems "phony" to him and hat he doesn't have the time. "I wouldn't mind having one, honestly, but I don't have any time. How would I look walking a dog on the White House lawn?" he asked. "I don't know; I don't feel good," he said. "Feels a little phony to me," he added. Trump's ex-wife Ivana Trump wrote in her book "Raising Trump" that he only eventually decided to let her poodle Chappy live with them in New York, claiming he was 'not a dog lover.' Contrarily, Trump has shown a soft spot for the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show between 2010 and 2015. As a tradition, the show's winner visited the Trump Tower and met Trump in his office, the WP report says. According to Will Alexander, one of the show's winners, Trump was "very welcoming" to him and his dog, and the whole time, he was "holding her in his arms." "She even left beagle hair on his black suit, and it didn't faze him," Alexander told WP.
