All adults aged between 30 and 39 will be able to choose the vaccine they wish to receive, so long as it does not cause substantial delays. On May 7, 2021, The Joint Committee for Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI) confirmed that all adults under the age of 40 in the U.K. would have the option to choose a COVID-19 vaccine. The move follows an announcement on April 7 which allowed all individuals under the age of 30 to choose their preference. it is hoped that this will increase the accessibility and speed of the U.K's vaccination program. The decision was based on a recommendation by the government's advisory body to allow the people to select the vaccine of choice. Health bodies said that the new guidance takes into account concerns of rare cases of blood clots that were reported after the AstraZeneca shot, but that these instances were still extremely unlikely. Professor Wei Shen Lim, COVID-19 Chair for JCVI, said in a press statement: "Safety remains our number one priority. We have continued to assess the benefit-risk balance of COVID-19 vaccines in light of UK infection rates and the latest information from the MHRA on the extremely rare event of blood clots and low platelet counts following vaccination." She added that: "The advice is specific to circumstances in the UK at this time and maximizes the use of the wide portfolio of vaccines available." The COVID-19 pandemic has given rise to a lot of potentially dangerous misinformation.
