The new bill signed by Governor Ron DeSantis requires state universities to survey students, faculty, and staff on their political perspectives. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis signed the bill on June 22, 2021, which requires universities and public colleges to examine students and faculty on campus to support intellectual diversity. The bill stated that a survey would assess the extent to which students, teachers, and staff can express their opinions and perspectives in public universities, colleges, campuses, or in the classroom. The bill entered into force on July 1, 2021. The survey will be carried out annually, starting on September 1, 2022, Axios reported. DeSantis stated that schools found to be "indoctrinating" students are not "worth tax dollars" and are not something that would be supported going forward. During a press briefing, DeSantis said that the goal of the bill is to keep public universities and colleges from becoming "hotbeds for stale ideology."
