Between March and May 2021, more than 35000 children between 0-9 years tested positive for COVID-19 in Karnataka. In the second wave of COVID-19 in India, more youngsters became infected with the virus. The data published by the Government of Karnataka revealed that out of 69788 children between 0-9 that tested positive for COVID-19, 57% percent or 39846 children caught the virus between March and May 2021 in Karnataka. After the first wave, the widely used narrative in India was that the country defeated COVID-19. However, India has seen a devasting surge in cases during the second wave. According to epidemiologists in India, the mutated virus, namely the B.1.617 variant, is highly transmissible. The Time of India reported that upon coming into contact with an infected family member, the remaining members are testing positive for COVID-19. In most cases, children have been the primary contact of COVID-19 patients. To date, India has recorded more than 26 million COVID-19 cases and around 300,000 deaths.
