The situation in China seemed under control until 57 news cases of the coronavirus were reported in Beijing in a single day in June 2020. A district in central Beijing has gone into “wartime mode” after discovering a cluster of coronavirus cases around the biggest meat and vegetable market in the city, which gave rise to fears of a second wave of COVID-19. The district officials in Beijing closed the Xinfadi market, and lockdowns have been imposed in nearby neighborhoods. The market entrance was sealed, and hundreds of military police stood guard while transport links and schools around have been closed.
