Texas Governor Greg Abbott lifted the state's mask mandate on March 2 and increased the capacity of all businesses in the state to 100 percent.Governor Abbott's executive order rolled back most of the COVID-19 restrictions he had imposed earlier in Texas. The new executive order, which is to take effect on March 10, lifts all mask requirements statewide and prevents local authorities from penalizing residents who do not cover their faces. It removes all restrictions on businesses in counties with a low number of hospitalizations. He had instituted a mask mandate when COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations had increased in July 2020. More than 44,000 Texans have due to the coronavirus. The state has recorded about 33,000 new cases in the past week. It is an increase from mid-February, but a significant decrease from January. The governor noted that Texas has a balance of personal protective equipment and can perform over 100,000 COVID-19 tests a day. The governor's office press release states that there have been investments in various antibody therapeutic drugs to keep Texans out of hospitals. It adds that more than 2.5 million Texans who tested positive for COVID-19 had recovered since the pandemic began.
