The Gross State Domestic Product of Delhi has increased from ₹ 616085 crores in 2016-17 to ₹ 923967 crores during 2021-22, which is around 50 percent.On March 23, in a budget session of the Delhi Assembly, Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal said that Delhi's Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) has increased 50 percent in the past five years. The governor gave brief details of the Delhi government's overall performance in the 2021-2022 financial year, as well as achievements in electricity, education, housing, and other areas, reports The Indian Express. Delhi's GSDP has steadily risen in the past five years. It was ₹ 616085 in 2016-17, ₹ 677900 in 2017-18, ₹ 738389 in 2018-19, and ₹ 794030 in 2019-20. But in 2020-21, Delhi's GSDP and per capita income saw a slight drop to ₹ 785342 during the first year of the pandemic. Government revenue decreased as drop-in tax collection and pandemic-related expenditure increased. These, in addition to lockdowns, affected Delhi's economic performance. The Hindu reports that Saket Surya, a senior analyst at PRS Legislative Research, said that "a fall in GSDP means that Delhi produced fewer goods and services because of the lockdown restrictions as well as a weaker demand as income of people might have seen a fall due to the pandemic." A report by the Delhi Economic Survey contains an advance estimate of the Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) of Delhi at current prices. It mentions that in 2021-22, Delhi's GSDP increased by 50 percent from ₹ 616085 (2016-17) to ₹ 923967 crores. Compared with the National level GDP growth at 8.9 percent, Delhi's GSDP recorded 10.23 percent in 2021-22. Goa tops the state-wise per capita income list, followed by Sikkim, and Delhi stands third. Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal also shed some light on upcoming projects during the 2021-22 budget session. He mentioned that 784 multistorey apartments in the Devnagar area are under construction for slum-dwellers under an in-situ rehabilitation policy. He added that the Delhi government plans to build a boarding school with other modern amenities for underprivileged and homeless children, India Express reports.
