Girish Chandra Murmu, the first Lieutenant-Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, resigned precisely one year after the creation of the union territory.On August 6, 2020, President Ram Nath Kovind had accepted GC Murmu's resignation as the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, and Manoj Sinha was appointed as his successor. He was a Gujarat cadre IAS officer of 1985 batch appointed as the Lieutenant Governor. GC Murmu became the first Lieutenant-Governor of the union territory after the bifurcation of the former Jammu and Kashmir state as two union territories, Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh on October 31, 2019. After the resignation from his post, he has been appointed as the new Auditor General of India. The Jammu & Kashmir administration led by him had faced controversy over its opposition to restoring 4G internet services in the union territory.
