Twitter said world leaders were not above its policies entirely, but it would leave the content up if there is a clear public interest in doing so. Twitter would only remove a post if the post seemed to threaten an individual, promote terrorism or self-harm, posting private information such as a phone number, and shared intimate photos. Previously, when there were calls to remove tweets by Donald Trump in 2019, Twitter had told that world leaders were not above their 'policies entirely', but it would err on the side of leaving the content up, citing public interest. If the world leader breaks the rules/protocols set by Twitter- the post would be placed on a notice limiting engagements. Likes, Replies, and Retweets would be disabled to reduce the reach of Tweets that violate their rules. Retweeting with comments will remain so people can share the Tweet with additional context. Twitter, for the first time on May 26, 2020, took action against a series of tweets by U.S President Donald Trump, labeling them with a warning sign and providing a link to further information. Also, Twitter deleted an image from Trump's post due to copyright issues from the New York Times photographer on July 2, 2020.
