The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 has been suspended after players from various teams tested COVID-19 positive.In an emergency meeting, the Governing Council of the IPL and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) agreed to postpone the IPL 2021 season with immediate effect. The BCCI does not want to endanger the safety of the players, support staff, and other people interested in the IPL's organization. In a statement on May 4, 2021, the BCCI expressed its gratitude to all healthcare professionals, state associations, players, support staff, franchisees, partners, sponsors, and all service providers who, despite the challenging situations, have worked to make IPL 2021 a success. The BCCI was finalizing shifting the IPL to Mumbai and canceling Kolkata and Bangalore as venues on April 9, 2021, after players and officials from Kolkata Knight Riders and Chennai Super Kings, as well as the ground staff in Delhi and Chennai, tested positive. However, on May 4, 2021, along with Wriddhiman Saha of Sunrisers Hyderabad, Amit Mishra of the Delhi Capitals also tested positive, implying that the virus has spread to four separate franchises.
