The decision made by the Supreme court in the Constitutional Appeal No.2 supports the claim. A bill to scrap an age limit of 75 years for presidential candidates was passed in December 2017 by the Parliament of Uganda. This amendment allowed the long-ruling President Yoweri Museveni to extend his time in office. Otherwise, the original legislation would have barred him from standing in the next elections due in 2021. Subsequently, opponents of Museveni, including lawmakers and individual opposition activists, challenged the amendment in the Constitutional Court, which rejected their appeal. They later appealed to the Supreme Court. However, the Court also ruled in favor of the amendment.
