The Canada Post has assigned the postal code H0H 0H0 for children to send letters addressed to Santa Claus. As per The Canadian Press, the dedicated postal code was assigned in 1982. Each year, the postal service responds to thousands of children's letters from around the world addressed to Santa Claus, North Pole, H0H 0H0, Canada. Before that year, a woman named Verna Green, with the moniker Mrs. Claus, answered letters addressed to Santa, which her husband Charlie had started to do in Minnedosa, Manitoba. The tradition began when Charlie Green used to run a store in town, and children would put their letters to Santa in a box in the shop nearing Christmas. Green wrote about 500 replies by Christmas day. Canada Post has been sending these emails for almost 40 years. In that time, Santa’s North Pole post office has answered more than 30 million letters. The postal service's takeover and a proper establishment of the Santa Claus response team in 1985 have led to thousands to volunteer to answer such letters, including those in Braille and other languages apart from English. Social workers correspond to letters with requests for toys. The post office receives half a million letters to Santa every year.
