It has warned its consumers and health care providers to avoid these hand sanitizers containing Methanol, or wood alcohol, which can be toxic when absorbed through the skin or ingested. Also, it can be life-threatening and may even cause blindness requiring hospitalization, and death in some adults and children. Further, the FDA has advised the companies to remove these hand sanitizer products from the market due to the risks associated with methanol poisoning. The investigation is ongoing.
