The PMJJBY ₹2 lakh insurance scheme applies to COVID-19 deaths, provided they meet the eligibility criteria for the claim. The Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana (PMJJBY) on May 9, 2015. The scheme provides social insurance at affordable premiums for citizens with savings bank accounts across the country. PMJJBY is a life insurance scheme that will cover death for any reason. It will be a one-year cover that could be renewed yearly. The scheme is offered/administered by the Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) and other life insurance firms willing to sell the product on similar terms with the requisite approvals and bank tie-ups. This scheme is available to people between the ages of 18 and 50 (with life cover up to 55) who have a savings bank account and agree to enter and allow auto-debit. Under this scheme, a life cover of ₹2 lakh is available for one year, from June 1 to May 31, at a premium of ₹330 per annum per member. LIC stated that in the case of COVID-19 death claims, the "Force Majeure" provision would not apply. This measure was taken to encourage customers who had contacted individual life insurance companies to clarify this clause in their policy and refute rumors to the contrary. All life insurance providers have made this information available to their clients on an individual basis. A press release by LIC in April 2020 stated that death claims due to COVID-19 will be considered equal to other causes of death and that payments will be made as soon as possible. LIC officials are working to identify COVID-19 victims using lists issued by government agencies to assist the families. COVID-19-related death claims under 16 policies have already been resolved without delay. COVID-19 deaths are included in the list of reasons where the claim is applicable. However, this scheme would not be valid if the applicant does not have a bank account or is not between 18 and 55. COVID-19 deaths of people over the age of 55 are not eligible for this program. The COVID-19 pandemic has given rise to a lot of potentially dangerous misinformation.
