The Indian Government banned 59 apps developed by Chinese firms, including TikTok. Ever since India and China's recent border class in the Himalayas that left 20 Indian soldiers dead, tensions between the two countries have been running high. In response, the Indian Government announced a ban on 50 apps developed by Chinese firms. The ban includes apps such as TikTok, Alibaba, WeChat, UC Browser, Shareit, Shein among others. Taking a public stand against China, the government cited section 69A of its Information Technology Act as the reason for this ban. In a statement released by India’s Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, the secret transmission of users’ data in an unauthorized manner to servers outside India motivated this decision. National security, defense, and the threat to Indian's sovereignty were cited as concerns in the statement released.
