Uttarakhand police have decided to deny passport and gun license verification to people who habitually post anti-national content on social media.Ashok Kumar, Uttarakhand Director General of Police, said on Feb. 3, 2021, that police have decided to probe the behavior of those posting anti-national content on social media platforms. He warned of not clearing their verification for passport or arms license if the posts are against the country. If a person had uploaded anti-national posts or fake news on social media, the police used to counsel them and ask them not to repeat it in the future. Cases would have been registered if it was severe. He added that the police are to examine the accused's social media behavior from now onwards to determine if they are habitually putting such anti-national posts. If it is found so, the police would mention it in his/her verification and may not clear the person's application for a passport or arms license. This decision was one of the other measures addressed by the police officers during the conference held at police headquarters in Dehradun to improve policing.
