To boost the vaccination drive, anyone over the age of 21 who gets vaccinated by July 12 can receive a pre-rolled joint.Vaccination efforts are currently underway in several countries throughout the world. In the U.S., several giveaways and programs encouraging Americans to get their vaccinations have been announced. On June 7, 2021, the Washington State Liquor and Cannabis Board announced "Joints for Jabs." "Joints for Jabs" initiative allows state-licensed cannabis retailers ''to provide one joint to adult consumers who receive a vaccination at an in-store vaccination clinic." State-licensed cannabis retailers can either opt in or opt out of the initiative. A temporary license is issued on approval to the retailers, effective from June 7 to July 12, 2021. The conditions state that a single ''pre-roll joint" is provided to individuals who receive a first or second COVID-19 vaccine dose at the location registered (vaccine clinic at the retail location). Only individuals aged 21 or above are applicable to receive the complimentary joint. The joint distribution to the individual cannot be postponed or delayed; it must be provided at the point of vaccination only. The Washington Post has reported that experts have discovered that due to "hesitancy, access or logistical challenges for the population left unvaccinated," it will be hard to get everyone vaccinated and a decrease in the demand for the vaccine is to be expected. States have been announcing creative ideas to encourage the younger generation and others to be vaccinated. The ideas include lottery prizes, sports tickets, game systems, recently a free beer, and a joint. In response to the next steps of COVID-19 on June 3, President Joe Biden announced "a month of action" to achieve the target of getting at least 70 percent of U.S. citizens vaccinated by July 4. The actions included babysitting to vaccinated parents, free drop-in childcare, extended hours of local pharmacies for vaccination, and free beer for everyone over the age of 21 on July 4. The COVID-19 pandemic has given rise to a lot of potentially dangerous misinformation.
