On August 17, Facebook user 'Telangana BRZ Aziz Khan' shared a post with the caption, "New ration cards sanctioned in the state!!!! Applications for new ration cards will start from next Monday. Those who did not have a ration card earlier, but those who have an old ration card can correct the name and address if it is wrong."

In another post on Facebook, shared on the same date a user named Bhanu Laddu wrote, “Good news from Telangana government apply for new ration card everyone.” The post had a graphic written in Telugu which reads, “From August 21, applications for new ration cards will be open. Government has instructed all those eligible candidates to apply. If there are any errors in the name or address, then also one can apply for a new ration card. However, these claims are false.

In fact

Logically Facts checked the official website of the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Civil Supplies of Telangana, but there is no new circular making such an announcement.

A Google search about the claim took us to a video report on Eenadu News' YouTube channel in which Telangana Minister of Consumer Affairs and Food & Civil Supplies Gangula Kamalakar clarified that fake messages are circulating on social media on the fresh application of ration cards. He said that applications are currently not being accepted.

Logically Facts has also contacted the state’s civil supplies department, and an official from the public relations department confirmed that they had not invited any applications for the new ration cards.

The Telangana government had previously announced the distribution of ration cards in the month of July in 2021. Since then, no new applications have been invited.

The verdict

The Telangana government has not invited fresh applications for new ration cards. The civil supplies department has also debunked the rumors circulating on social media. Therefore, we mark this claim as false.
