Context

A video of an older man marrying a young woman is viral on social media. In the video, a married couple comes out of the temple, and the woman says that getting married was her choice, while the man explains he married his daughter-in-law after his son's demise. The woman explains it was because there was no one to look after her. On social media, users shared the video with captions claiming, "When the son died, the father-in-law married the daughter-in-law."

However, this is false, and the video has been shared with misleading captions.

In Fact

We found that the video has been circulating on social media since 2022. We traced the complete video back to Facebook to a post dated June 4, 2022. The six-minute-long video had been shared with a caption in Hindi that translates to: "When the son died, the father-in-law married the daughter-in-law, when the husband died, the daughter-in-law married the father-in-law." At the end of the video, we noted a disclaimer: "Everything in this video is imaginary. Imaginary because reality is too bitter to be told or shown. Events shown in this are not real compared to what has actually been happening in countries like ours."

Similarly, on Twitter, on June 5, 2022, a user shared a two-minute-long version of the video, the end of which had the same disclaimer.

On May 5, 2023, The Times of India reported on the viral video and noted that it was scripted.

Back in June 2022, Boomlive found the source of the video, a Facebook page called Rahul Expose. The woman in the video had played a newlywed in other videos posted on the same page. However, at present, the Facebook page has been taken down.

The Verdict

The complete video carries a disclaimer stating that the video is fictional. The woman seen in the video has played different roles in other videos. Therefore, we have marked the claim as false.
