Context

The Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra is an ongoing roadshow led by Indian National Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. It commenced on January 14, 2024, in Thoubal, Manipur, and is scheduled to conclude in Mumbai, traversing the length of India from east to west.

What’s the claim?

As the roadshow reached Nashik, Maharashtra, on March 15, 2024, a video depicting a large gathering on the road has been attracting attention on social media. This video is accompanied by claims that it shows the arrival of Gandhi’s roadshow in Nashik.

A user on X (formerly known as Twitter) posted the video with the caption, “Lakhs of people Joined Rahul Gandhi's Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra in Nashik Maharashtra. There was sea of people in Marathi land The support of Marathi people for Congress, Rahul & MVA is historical (sic).” The post was viewed 7,400 times at the time of writing this story. Archived versions of such posts can be accessed here, here, and here.

The video clip was also shared by the official accounts of the Congress party, including the Haryana Youth Congress and Maharashtra Youth Congress, on their respective X accounts. Archived versions of the posts can be viewed here and here.

What we found

Logically Facts conducted a reverse image search on keyframes from the viral video and discovered that it has been circulating online since December 2022.

The Congress's X account initially shared the video on December 16, 2022, indicating it was captured in Dausa, Rajasthan, during the Bharat Jodo Yatra that commenced in September 2022.

Arvind Chotia, a journalist and former editor at Dainik Bhaskar, also posted the video on X on December 16, 2022. The caption, when translated to English, stated, "Crowd gathered in Bharat Jodo Yatra in Dausa. #BharatJodoYatra."

Logically Facts determined that the location featured in the viral video is Dausa city in Rajasthan. By comparing the scene with Google Street View images, we noted identical grill dividers on the road and a first-floor shop adjacent to a street, distinguished by a yellow shutter—details that align with those seen in the viral video. Furthermore, at the 0:12 mark of the viral video, the building visible behind a white banner matches the imagery on Google Street View, confirming the structure as the Dausa Head Post Office.

The verdict

A video from Congress' Bharat Jodo Yatra in 2022 is inaccurately being shared as recent footage from the party's 2024 roadshow in Nashik, Maharashtra. Consequently, this claim is marked as misleading.
